Brooksville, Florida Animal Control too busy killing animals to talk to people who want to adopt

Tampa Animal Welfare Examiner
Maryann Tobin
A Hernando County Animal Services worker came out to the adoption area this afternoon wearing a pair of surgical gloves. As he walked past a family trying to get someone to help them with a potential dog adoption, he said, “They have to stop sending people back here, I’m busy euthanizing.”
Kennel Worker, Dave Krusko appeared angry and frustrated as he walked past me. Then I heard him comment that he had been “euthanizing all day”, and again complained that the people in the front office should not be “letting people back here when I’m euthanizing.”
People who care about the disposition of abandoned animals are generally upset by ‘kill shelters’, but to witness a half-dozen people being chased away from the adoption area because a kennel worker was more eager to kill animals than to get them homes - is an outrage.
It is unclear as to whether Mr. Krusko had been ordered by his superiors to kill a certain number of animals today, or if the problem lies in some other part of the Hernando County government system.
Regardless of the circumstances, this examiners eye witness account of putting killing animals ahead of getting them homes is an intolerable abuse of power by local authorities - which must be stopped immediately.
